One of my favorite pieces of tech the past 6 months has been actually an alarm clock. After 6 months, it has actually changed the way I wake up and go to bed for the better. The first major highlight of this clock is its two-phase alarm system. Instead of jolting you awake, Lofty uses a gentle wake-up alarm followed by a more traditional get-up alarm. You can customize the interval between the two alarms, and the sounds themselves are peaceful. Unlike voice commands or fumbling with your phone’s touchscreen, the Lofty actually has buttons that you need to press, and I find there’s something satisfying about physically hitting a button to turn off your alarm.
I find it makes me more likely to actually get up out of bed on time. Just that action of turning off the alarm clock—it’s like I’ve checked off the first thing I need to get done that morning. The clock also has a bedtime signal feature that reminds you when it’s time to wind down, with a built-in nightlight that subtly glows below the clock.
Design-wise, this is easily one of the sleekest alarm clocks available. The display seems to just float in its glossy plastic housing, giving it this modern, minimal look. But it’s not just about looks—it also has a backup battery that will keep your clock and make sure your alarm goes off if your power goes out overnight. That’s actually the thing that led me to the Lofty after looking for a new alarm clock after my Nest Hub didn’t wake me up when there was a power outage.
And yes, there is a smartphone app. You can set alarms and adjust settings even when you’re away, and you can use it as a Bluetooth speaker as well. The only downside with the clock I found is price, which is definitely on the expensive side for an alarm clock.
So do I recommend the Lofty alarm clock? Well, if you’re looking for a reliable, well-designed alarm clock that makes getting out of bed feel less stressful, then yes. The two-phase alarm system, physical controls, and backup battery make it a great bedside companion, plus it gets your phone out of the bedroom.
